SPF18 – Solar Punk Festival Berlin
Solar Punk Festival – SPF18: Envisioning ecologically balanced futures
The Solar Punk Festival is a standalone project created and initiated by Ellery Studio. It’s the first in what we plan to be an annual get-together of creative workers, energy experts, futurists, academics, and concerned members of the public seeking to enact alternative energy futures. The festival uses the narrative of “Solarpunk” to explore a variety of participatory formats to cultivate creativity and future foresight in the field of energy and sustainability.
The first installment SPF18 took place late August 2018 and explores how collaborativ storytelling and visualization can create compelling eco-positive narratives with contentual depth.
Partners were: GUTS, WindNODE, TU Berlin & IKEM
WHAT IS SOLARPUNK?
Solarpunk is a literary movement within the science fiction genre that has been in existence since 2012 and that gained considerable popularity in 2017. It is a declaration of intent about a future that we consider desirable and a counterweight to the dystopian visions of cyberpunk of the 1980s, which are currently again omnipresent in blockbusters. Solarpunk promotes the responsible use of new technologies. It marks an optimistic future in which humanity learns to live in harmony with the limited resources of our planet. Above all, sustainable technological achievements play a role here, but at least to the same extent the necessary social and cultural developments. Its stories combine renewable energies, artistic imagination and nature conservation.
